In Spring 2010, Chris Yates installed an Ice Energy Heat Pump which is fed by a ground sourced water system in this house in South Cumbria. The house is a recently converted 1848 barn, the construction is stone with very thick walls.
Chris had first visited the house 2 months before. At that stage he gave clear and precise intsructions about how and where the underground pipes from the adjacent field should be brought up to the house. He also described how he would get the underground water pipes into the house and then through the interior wall of the house to the proposed location of the heat pump. Because of the many very thick interior stone walls it was inevitable that the interior piping was complex - both the supply to the heat pump and from the heat pump to the manifolds for the downstairs underfloor heating and upstairs radiator system. It was decided to fit the heat pump centrally within the house, as this avoided the need for constructing a new building outside to house it. In our case the necessary internal holes through the walls were to be made by local labour so reducing the amount of time needed on site by his plumbing team.
Soon after his visit Chris provided what turned out to be an accurate estimate of the time the job would take and the price he would charge for all materials and labour.
He and one assistant arrived exactly on the day and time he said. They completed the work, which included the upstairs radiator system and removal of the old heating boiler as well as the installation, setting up and checking of the heat pump and hot water storage unit, in four and a half days. His work did not include the installation of the underfloor heating system which was undertaken by local labour and was already in place connected to the necessary manifolds by the time he started his part of the job.
The work was inevitably noisy as it involved the installation of new pipes all over the house. The team worked fast and very neatly - clearing up all the mess as they went along and at the end of each day they left the house in a usable state.
We were very happy with the work done and would recommend Yates Renewable Energies Ltd for any similar work.
